Significance of 108 Names of Lord Ram as per Padam Puran

According to Shankar ji, Goddess Parvati started reciting the Sahasranama of Lord Vishnu ji every day and only after that Parvati ji used to eat. It is a matter of one day, Lord Shankar ji was returning after worshiping Lord Vishnu ji on Kailash, then he called Goddess Parvati ji to have food with him.

Then Goddess Parvati said that Lord, I will eat food only after reciting Shri Vishnu Sahasranama, please take food.

Hearing this, Lord Bholenath ji laughed and said that Goddess Parvati, you are blessed, you are a virtuous soul because you have devotion in Lord Vishnu which is very rare.

It is very difficult and rare to get the devotion of Lord Shri Vishnu ji without luck. Hey! Parvati, I am always Rama! Ram! While chanting (Ram! Ram!), I rejoice in the name of Lord Rama.

Hey! Parvati, the name of Lord Rama is similar to the entire Sahastranaam (Name of Lord Rama is like whole Vishnu Sahastranaam). So Mahadevi! You have dinner with me at this time by chanting the name of Ram.

Hearing this, Parvati ji uttered the name of Ram and sat down to eat with Lord Shankar. After this Goddess Parvati ji asked Lord Shankar ji that hey! Deveshwar, you have said that the name of Ram is equivalent to the entire Sahasranamam, listening to this, I have developed devotion towards the name of Ram. Therefore, if you have other names of Lord Shri Ram, then tell.

Mahadev ji said – Parvati, I describe the names of Shri Ramchandra ji. Even in Sahasranama, 108 names of Shri Ram ji (108 Names of Lord Rama) have more predominance. Each name of Lord Shri Vishnu ji is considered more than all the Vedas. The name of Shri Ram alone is considered equal to a thousand names.

The chanting of the name of Lord Rama is achieved by many times more merit than the chanting of all the mantras and all the Vedas. Parvati Now listen to the description of the main names of Shri Ram, which have been sung by the great sages:-

पद्मपुराण के अनुसार भगवान श्री राम जी के एक सौ आठ (108) नामों का महात्म्य

शंकर जी (Shankar ji) के कहे अनुसार माता पार्वती (Goddess Parvati Mata) रोज भगवान श्री विष्णु जी (Lord Vishnu ji)  के सहस्रनाम का पाठ (Reciting Shri Vishnu Sahastranama) करने लगी तथा उसके बाद ही  पार्वती जी भोजन करती थी। एक दिन की बात है, भगवान शंकर जी कैलाश पर भगवान श्री विष्णु जी की आराधना करके लौट रहे थे तो उन्होंने देवी पार्वती जी को बुलाया कि वह उनके साथ भोजन करें।

तब पार्वती देवी ने कहा कि प्रभु मैं श्री विष्णु सहस्रनाम का पाठ करने के पश्चात ही भोजन करूंगी कृपा आप भोजन कर लें।

यह सुनकर भगवान भोलेनाथ जी (Bholaynath ji) ने हंसते हुए कहा कि देवी पार्वती आप धन्य हो, आप एक पुण्य आत्मा हैं क्योंकि भगवान विष्णु में तुम्हारी भक्ति है जो बहुत ही दुर्लभ है।

बिना भाग्य के भगवान श्री विष्णु जी की भक्ति प्राप्त होना बहुत ही कठिन और दुर्लभ है। हे! पार्वती, मैं तो निरंतर ही राम! राम! (Ram! Ram!) का जप करते हुए श्री राम नाम (Name of Lord Rama) में ही रमण किया  करता हूं।

हे! पार्वती, राम नाम संपूर्ण सहस्त्रनाम (Name of Rama is like whole Vishnu Sahastranaam) के समान है। अतः महादेवी! तुम राम नाम का उच्चारण करके इस समय मेरे साथ भोजन करो।

यह सुनकर पार्वती जी ने राम नाम का उच्चारण करके भगवान शंकर जी के साथ बैठकर भोजन किया है। इसके पश्चात देवी पार्वती जी ने भगवान शंकर जी से पूछा कि हे! देवेश्वर आपने राम नाम को संपूर्ण सहस्रनाम के तुल्य बताया है इसको सुनकर मेरे मन में राम नाम के प्रति भक्ति हो गई है। अतः आप भगवान श्री राम के और भी नाम हो तो बताइए।

महादेव जी ने कहा – पार्वती मैं श्री रामचंद्र जी (Lord Ram Chandra ji) के नामों का वर्णन करता हूं। सहस्रनाम में भी श्री राम जी के 108 नामों (108 Names of Lord Ram) की प्रधानता अधिक है। भगवान श्री विष्णु जी का एक-एक नाम सब वेदो से अधिक माना गया है। एक हज़ार नामों के बराबर अकेला श्री राम नाम माना गया है।

संपूर्ण मंत्रों और समस्त वेदों के जप की अपेक्षा कोटि गुना पुण्य फल केवल राम नाम के जप प्राप्त होता है। पार्वती अब तुम श्री राम (Shri Ram) के उन प्रधान अर्थात मुख्य नामों का वर्णन सुनो जिसका गान महाऋषियों ने किया है:-
