Goddess Parvati ji said – O god of gods, Lord Shankar, husband of the world, the beloved of Brahma ji located in Prabhas Kshetra.

Tell me the character of the one who is Savitri Devi. The one who is the greatness of their fast and the history of their relationship and who is the giver of the husband’s vows, fortunate and great riser. Then Lord Shankar said [v. O Mahadevi, I tell you about the extraordinary character of Savitri situated in Prabhas Kshetra. Oh Maheshwar! The way the princess Savitri observed the perfect Vat savitri fast at a place called Savitri-stha.

There lived a godly king in the land of Madra, who was ready for the welfare of all beings, his name was Ashupati. The king was childless even though he was righteous, forgiving, truthful. At one time he was traveling in King Prabhas Kshetra. Arrived and Savitri came on her own. There the king along with his queen performed this fast, which is known as Savitri Vrat, which fulfills all kinds of wishes.

Bhubhurvah Suvaha (भूभुर्वः स्वः) by becoming a real idol of this mantra, Savitri Devi, the beloved of Shri Brahmaji, was pleased with that king. The goddess Savitri, who was wearing the Kamandtu, became invisible again after giving darshan. But after a few days after the merit of seeing the goddess, a girl like the goddess was born on King Ashwapati, who was born from the part of Goddess Savitri. The girl child born after receiving the blessings of Goddess Savitri and worshiping Savitri was also named Savitri.

This princess started growing like Goddess Lakshmi and gradually that girl with soft limbs attained puberty. The townspeople used to see that girl here and understand that she is some Devkanya. Having huge eyes like lotus and becoming as popular as fire with radiance, she started observing Savitri fast as told by Maharishi Bhrigu.

One day the girl, who was adorned like Lakshmi, stood near her father after worshiping Goddess Savitri. Seeing the daughter’s receipt at that time, the king consulted the ministers. After this the king has told Savitri that the time has come to give you a suitable groom. No one comes from me even to ask for you and even after thinking I am not able to find a groom according to your soul. So it’s daughter! Do not be reprehensible in the presence of the gods in such a way. I have also read and heard in the scriptures that if a girl who becomes pregnant before marriage, while living in her father’s house, her father incurs a great sin.

That’s why it’s daughter! I am sending you to find your worthy groom on your own. Go quickly with the old ministers and obey my words, after saying that ‘it will happen as they say,’ after saying this, Savitri left the house and walked towards Tapovan with the royals and after reaching there, after saluting the honorable old people, going to all the shrines and ashrams again Savitri returned to her palace with the ministers. Here Savitri saw Devarshi Naradji sitting with her father. Sitting on the seat, smiling and bowing to Naradji, started saying all the things for which she had gone to the forest.

Savitri said – Oh Naradji! There is a Kshatriya king known in the country of Shalva by the name of Dharmatma Yumatsen, who has become blind by chance, one of his feudatories named Rukmi has snatched the palace from him and he is living in the forest with his son and wife. His son is truthful and righteous, I have chosen him as my husband.

Hearing the words of Naradji Savitri, he said, O king! Savitri has done this great task. Having a child’s intellect, considering it to be only virtuous, he selected Satyavan. Satyavan makes earthen horses and also paints a picture of a horse. Because of this he is also called Chitrashva. Satyavan is like a disciple of Rantidev in charity and virtue, protector of brahmins and truthful. He is as dear as the moon, as generous as King Yayati, as strong as the second Ashwini Kumar and as strong as Shumatsen, but he has only one flaw, and none other that Satyavan will die just one year from today due to weakness. .

Thus listening to Naradji, Rajkanya Savitri told the king

King people say something to someone once. Brahmaveta says only once and only once a girl child is given. These three actions are performed only once, not again and again, whether long or short life, virtuous or nirguna, the bridegroom is selected only once. Now I will not choose another groom.

Naradji said – O king! If you think it is appropriate, then get your daughter Savitri’s kanyadaan done soon. The king got Savitri married with Satyavan according to the auspicious time of law. Savitri was as happy to have her husband as a virtuous man is pleased to find her in heaven.

Savitri used to remember Naradji’s words while staying with that Satyavan in the ashram and kept counting the days when Satyavan would leave his body. When only three days were left for Satyavan’s death, Savitri took a fast to remain fast and on the third day after taking a bath in the morning worshiped the gods and ancestors, then after worshiping her mother-in-law’s feet, she also went towards the forest with her husband.

While chopping wood in the forest, suddenly Satyavan’s head started hurting, Savitri said that you sleep with your head on my lap for some time and then we will walk towards the ashram. As soon as Satyavan was lying on Savitri’s lap, Savitri saw that men who had risen like the sun were standing in front of them, dressed in dark, pingal-coloured, kiritpari, yellow clothes.

Savitri bows to him and asks him who are you. On this Yamraj said that I am for all beings. I am the dreadful and the one who punishes them according to their deeds. Therefore, your husband’s life is over, lying nearby, Savitri. The eunuchs will not be able to take it away, so I have come myself.

Saying this, Yamraj, who was imprisoned, took out the soul from Satyavan’s body with only a thumb. After this, Savitri started walking towards Yampuri. One cannot go through the expired Yama Marg.

Savitri said to Yamraj that if you are walking with a gentleman like you, my husband is with you, then I am not feeling any shame and guilt in walking with you. Secondly, there is no other place for women in this earth world except husband. That’s why I am following you. Hearing the sweet words of Savitri, Yama said that I am happy with your words, so whatever you want, ask for a boon.

When Savitri asked Yamraj for the blessings of her lost kingdom, the light of her mother-in-law’s eyes and her sons. Being trapped in his boon, Yamraj freed Satyavan’s soul and returned it to Savitri. Savitri returned to her ashram with her husband. Savitri fasted for Savitri Devi, due to which her mother-in-law’s eyesight returned. He also got his kingdom and had a hundred sons.
